Was it an intestinal worm?

Last time i went to the toilet i noticed a reasonably long, stringy thing! It kinda looked like a 5cm long piece of thread (but its not thread worm as they only reach about 13mm i believe). It was very thin in proportion to its length, and seemed to have consistent width all the way along. However, (and i apologize for the grossness of this) i have recently been eating asparagus, and the ends are quite 'stringy' so maybe its just that. DO you think its a worm, and what type as none seem to fit the identity of it. Do i need to visit the docs?? :(
